Fluoroscopic Procedure Instructions
Before Your Procedure
Fasting Instructions
Do not eat anything for at least 6 hours before your procedure. You may drink clear liquids — water, black coffee, plain tea, apple juice, or broth — up until 2 hours before your scheduled procedure time.
What to Wear
Wear loose-fitting, comfortable clothing that can be easily adjusted or moved. This allows our team to properly position you and access the treatment area without difficulty.
Arrival Time
Please arrive 30 minutes before your scheduled procedure time. This allows adequate time for check-in, paperwork, and preparation so we can stay on schedule for you and all patients.
Blood Thinners
Blood-thinning medications must be held for all cervical (neck) procedures. Blood thinners do not need to be held for lumbar procedures. Before stopping any blood thinner, you must speak with your prescribing physician first to confirm it is safe to hold your medication. Do not stop on your own without clearance.
Common blood thinners include:
Warfarin (Coumadin)
Apixaban (Eliquis)
Rivaroxaban (Xarelto)
Dabigatran (Pradaxa)
Clopidogrel (Plavix)
Ticagrelor (Brilinta)
Edoxaban (Savaysa)
Aspirin 325mg (daily use)
If you are unsure whether your medication is a blood thinner, call our office before your appointment.
Took an Extra Dose?
If you you took a medication you were instructed to stop — call our office immediately. Do not simply show up for your procedure. We want to confirm it is still safe to proceed before you come in.
After Your Procedure
Injection Site Healing
Keep the injection site clean and dry. If a band-aid or other dressing was placed, it can typically be removed the same day of the procedure. Avoid baths, pools, hot-tubs, jacuzzi’s, and swimming for the first 48 hours. Showering is fine.
Returning to Daily Activity
You can return to your normal daily activities right after your procedure, as tolerated. There is no mandatory rest period. Listen to your body — if something is uncomfortable, ease back in gradually.
Soreness at the Injection Site
Mild soreness or pressure at the injection site is normal and typically resolves within 24–72 hours. Applying an ice pack for 15–20 minutes at a time can help with discomfort.
Driving
If sedation was used during your procedure, you will need a driver to take you home. If no sedation was given, you may drive yourself.
